Adults found mainly on sheep
Eggs laid on vegetation or faeces.
Larva mature by the Autumn-diapause until spring when adults emerge.
Swaledale and Scotish Blacface sheep most susceptible.
Mechanical vector of Corynebacterium pyogenes, causing mastitis in cattle.
Labella adapted for sponging, small teeth are present which rasp away at skin whilst fly feeds on secretions.
